How to Play Life And Rejoice in the Marvel
Lately, the notion of Play Life has been on the top of my mind, with strong influences provided by the spoken words of both Jim Carey and Alan Watts. (I know what you are thinking, isn’t funny man Jim Carey just a comedian?)
Nothing you do will add anything to you, and nothing you do will take anything away from you. — Jim Carey
Why Play Life?
The entire landscape that is life shifts when you realize that there is nothing left to do by which you can improve. After all, how does one improve the YOU that emerged from the fabric of existence both unbounded and pure? A fair question to ask is what are the rules by which we are to play life? We have the rules for all manner of vocations but what about life?
In school, you’re taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you’re given a test that teaches you a lesson. — Tom Bodett
For a long time, I have lived life with all the seriousness and unhealthy anxiety of someone who believed that life was a journey to a destination that I ought to reach. Well, the great Alan Watts shattered this way of thinking and showed in his poetic way that life is akin to a dance, with no real purpose or destination, in which one basks in the rhythm of the beat.
What are the rules to Play Life?
My search for meaning has led me to deduce four principles by which to play life, beautifully captured in the acronym of the word PLAY itself.
Partner With the Universe
Listen to Your Heart
Accept What is Now
Yield to the One Fear
