30 Days to More Presence In Your Life
Yes, Dorothy, there is indeed an app for more presence!
Chapter 1 — The Prelude
Two weeks ago, another unsuspecting thought popped into my consciousness during a return trip home from Toastmasters. I found myself staring at a depiction of the time I spent this day in thoughts of the past, present, and future. “Interesting” was my one-word reaction to this ephemeral experience. Little did I know that the grandeur of the moment would soon arrive the next morning in the form of dialogue inspired by The Power of Now.
Are you living with too much there and not enough here?
Would it not be great to have a clear answer to this question?
How could I assess my progress in living color?
And, how could I improve in a tangible manner?
But You Swore, “Never Again!”
Have you done this as well? Have you declared to the universe, “Never again?” You see a most resilient parasite was now in possession of my thoughts with equal parts excitement, anxiety, and a call to trust in faith. An idea was forming and not just any idea. Nope. At play was a whisper to create an app, one that would allow folks, like you and me, challenged with present awareness, to find a step by step concrete resolution.

Why the Resistance
In the Alchemist, we learn that the heart knows what a person desires, but it whispers this call to action almost with a hope that it not be heard. For the heart also knows the pain of a dream that is never birthed and allowed to die out of fear, doubt, and procrastination. I lived with the residue of these scars from my three years of personally building and marketing a “failed” app that heralded the 166 squares miles of luxurious splendor that was my homeland.
My inability to accept the pain that came with this
failure missed opportunity led to the infamous words “Never again!” Thankfully, wisdom comes with hindsight, and the greatest lesson from my misfortune is that you should tell your story as it unfolds. You need to be vulnerable in revealing all of the murkiness along the path that is the prerequisite to clarity.
This time I’m determined to share the journey in public with no fear, doubt, or procrastination. For what I must build must be done first and foremost to help myself. There is no shame or ego in this statement. To help others, you must first help yourself. How do I know there are others in need of more presence? Because whatever in your life you believe is most personal, is indeed most universal, as stated by Carl Rogers.
My need to be more present in life is not uncommon. So many of us suffer in silent pain, unconscious of its origin, as we hold to a belief that a future day awaits when everything will be perfect topped with fulfillment. But there is no one day, and there is no there. If you too have lived life with an expectation that this grand thing is coming, then I say this story is not mine but yours as well, and we must join forces to bring it to fruition.
I will be updating this article in the coming weeks with a blueprint on how the app will deliver the stated value, as well as the obstacles and progress towards this goal.
