Who am I and What Does It All Mean?
“Who am I?” What an interesting question we all asked ourselves? Who is this person we refer to as “I”? Why do we feel this label so strongly? Why do we believe that somehow we are disconnected from “it,” that which is whole and which resides outside of us, or so we profess?
The Bible speaks of man’s fall from grace. What if this is just a metaphor for losing the sense of oneness to everyone and everything? What if the question that seems to lack an answer was always meant to lead you back to the totality? To understand that you “are” it is to wash away the pain of isolation and loneliness and to free you from the thought of your imminent demise.
“So who am I?” You are the one you were before this separate identity you now hold to and the one you always will be. The very one that stepped out of the unmanifested to embody this form “I.”
But if there is one energy and you and “I” both emerged from it then what does this foretells? It means that “I” is the greatest delusion ever cast. It is the ultimate deception played by the egoic mind, what some might call the devil. Yes, he too is not out there but in here.
There is no “I” that exists apart from the whole, after all, how could this be possible? The whole is the whole, and without you, it cannot be!
If I’m I because you are you, and you are you because I’m I, then I am not I and you are not you. — A Wise Rabbi
So, once more you ask “Who am I?” The answer is “You are it!” Not it as in the past or future but it as in the only dimension that there is which is the present.
The life which you are now waiting for a sense of completion to one day live is presently unfolding. How much of it are you missing by denying the present in favor of the future? Are you waiting to become a better version of yourself? How can you? How can anything you hope to accomplish ever make you more whole than you are as the unmanifested?
All the talk of completion is the ego’s way of distracting you from the glaring truth. You are here to experience life and give an account. You are here to play the game of life with the universe because you are it and it is you. You are a play of this one energy, the light through which the whole universe looks out as professed by Alan Watts.
So, now what are you going to do? Yeah, Michael, I’m talking to you?
